PUDATE: Evacuation area expands south of Hot Springs due to wildland fire - Rapid City South Dakota news, weather, sports | NewsCenter1

UPDATE 3:28 p.m. — The Fall River Sheriff's Office says the evacuation area has been expanded to include all properties between Country View Road and East Cascade Mountain Road.In addition, Cascade Rd (SD Highway 71) is closed from the hospital to East Cascade Mountain Road for all unnecessary travel due to excessive traffic congestion that is impeding first responder traffic. The Sheriff's Office is asking that drivers avoid the area.An initial unofficial estimate puts the fire at about 150 acres.

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. — A wildland fire burning south of Hot Springs along Highway 71, also known as Cascade Road, prompted evacuations Saturday afternoon.According to the Fall River Sheriff's Office the evacuation area is south of Country View and Green Acres Roads. The last official word from the Sheriff's Office indicated that winds were pushing the fire toward the northeast. In a social media post, but Sheriff's Office urged anyone living northeast of the fire to begin evacuation preparations.
